Greenshot is, however, a fairly big step forward from MWSnap. DUCKCAPTURE PRINTSCREEN NOT WORKING SOFTWAREIt costs, but if you do a lot of capturing, it is by far the best software at the task.) It not only takes screen captures but also makes instruction videos and grabs any outside video that you can see on your screen. (The commercial program SnagIt is excellent screen capture software that does it all. Unfortunately, it also leaves you once again with the task of getting a separate program to shoot entire web pages. Greenshot is a new, small (550KB to download) open-source program that takes the post-production part There is no editing, no enhancements, no sharing. ![]() The downside is that DuckCapture does exactly what it advertises, and nothing more. ![]() Combining the standard three screenshots - desktop, window and defined region - with the additional task of capturing everything "down there" makes DuckCapture a keeper. I have reviewed programs in the past which will take such a screenshot, of, say, an entire web page, including the part you have to scroll the browser to see. It's minor because there are other ways to solve it, but it's niggling because other programmers should have been doing what DuckLink has done - combine a screenshot program with the ability to capture everything in a window, even if the window scrolls off the screen. This program actually solves one minor but niggling problem for me. A couple of very good ones are now available.ÄuckCapture is by DuckLink Software, who have a sense of humour as well as excellent programming skills, and brag only that they are a "small software laboratory". It's fast, polite and is eleventeen jillion times better than doing it Microsoft's way. Including extensive help, uninstall and some language files (not Thai), MWSnap doesn't come close to a megabyte in size. You can save or print the screen shot, not much more. There are rudimentary photo-editing tools, basic frame-making, and some additions such as putting a mouse cursor in the picture. Once you take the screenshot, it pops up in the window of MWSnap for you to look at, maybe work on, and save. Shift-Ctrl-A (a-for-area) lets you define the part of the screen you want to photograph by dragging the mouse from imaginary corner to corner of the photo. You can reset the hot-keys if you wish, but at the start, Shift-Ctrl-D takes a photo of the desktop, Shift-Ctrl-W of the current window under your cursor. DUCKCAPTURE PRINTSCREEN NOT WORKING SERIESWhen it starts up, it sets a series of hot-key combinations so you don't have much clicking and mousing to do once you get used to it. The program does pretty well everything I want with one major exception, for which see below. DUCKCAPTURE PRINTSCREEN NOT WORKING DOWNLOADFreeware download sites such as WebAttack and NoNags give it their maximum rating, and quite rightly. DUCKCAPTURE PRINTSCREEN NOT WORKING WINDOWSMWSnap 3.0 is stable, works on all Windows versions, and does exactly what the author and, apparently almost all users want. The program is about 10 years old, and in the first two and a half years it got a lot of TLC from Mirek. MW is the monogram of Polish author Mirek Wojtowicz. MWSnap is what I have been using pretty well constantly since the millennium, except while reviewing possible replacements. DUCKCAPTURE PRINTSCREEN NOT WORKING WINDOWS 7And it's amazing how much they have improved, while the latest, spiffy Windows 7 hasn't improved a whit. This silliness did not persist for long (except at Microsoft headquarters), as programmers worldwide figured out much better ways to take screenshots. So, if you want a picture of your screen, press PrintScreen, then paste the result into a photo program such as Windows Paint, where you can print or save it for future action. Press the key, and Windows takes a picture of the entire screen, and puts it into the equally 20th-century clipboard. So while keyboard makers still label it PrintScreen, it should say PhotoScreen. And Microsoft engineers found that for some technical reasons - and laziness - they couldn't do that any more. Under the non-graphical operating systems such as DOS, this key performed an astounding task - it sent what was on the screen to the printer. ![]() After you take a screenshot with MWSnap, you can apply some basic photo-editing effects before you either save or print it. ![]()
